Check out the video below for a full start-to-finish breakdown
of the project, narrated by the project manager:
This deck for the Pilch-Stabins family was an absolute blast to design & build! We got to tear down their old deck, pour down a 4″ slab, build the framing from scratch with joists 12″ on-center, then dried in the underside of it so that the bottom area is 100% waterproof! This makes it serve as an excellent storage space during spring to fall.
*Pro Tip: The posts may LOOK like they’re resting on just the 4″ slab, but this is no beuno when it comes to structural support. The homeowners wanted a flush look for the concrete, so we actually poured 36″ concrete footers underneath the slab under each of the 5 posts. This way the structural support would be entirely invisible, but still sturdy enough to withstand a hurricane!
