A project done by McCann signifies an association with The Best. This is because, with McCann, you get exclusive access to the best in the business: the people and products only elite-level contractors and insiders know about. This is exactly what the Wooten family got when they decided to turn 2 of their small bedrooms on the first floor into 1 large bedroom with a master bath. And when they came to us with architectural prints of the project, we were ready to help them make their dream a reality.
Check out the video below for a full timelapse video of the project,
narrated by the project manager:
…And here’s what the homeowners had to say about the project:
The overall goal of the project was pretty simple: take 2 small bedrooms and turn them into a master bedroom and a master bathroom… while also updating the existing bathroom.
The first step was of course to acquire architectural prints. This was necessary because in order to consolidate the space, we needed to remove a load-bearing wall and make sure that it would still be structurally safe.
After that, it was time for demo! The homeowners wanted to take a crack at demo-ing the existing bath themselves, while we were working on the bedroom demo. Of course, the plumbing for the new master bathroom had to be installed at this time, and we also had to bring the electrical and HVAC up to code.
Then when that was done we drywalled the new master bedroom, walk-in closet, and shower space. Then we installed all of the underlayment for the floor tile and we were ready to start work on laying the tiles!
The homeowners picked out a simple subway tile for the showers, and a sheet tile pattern for the flooring made up of a lot of smaller stones. For the master bathroom they added a waterfall tile underneath the shower head for an accent (see pictures below).
*PRO TIP: Once we got to the grout phase we made sure that the homeowners knew to get what’s known as “Power Grout” – grout that comes with a sealant already included. Most grout products don’t come with a water-proof sealant, so they are prone to staining or cracking if you don’t get them professionally sealed after installation. With power grout, paying to get it sealed later isn’t required, because the grout becomes water-proof, mold-proof, and stain-proof when it’s mixed!
Now once all the demo, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, drywall and tilework was done, all that was left was installing the fixtures and touching up the paint.
All in all, this was a super fun project to build, taking just 8 weeks from start-to-finish, WHILE working the schedule around the Christmas and New Year’s holiday season!
